Welcome to the Professional Certificate in Nonprofit Management process. 

We are excited to present the revitalization of our former partnership with UC Riverside- Palm Desert to offer a comprehensive non-profit management training program. 

As a dedicated organization committed to fostering education and empowerment, we recognize the vital role that nonprofit organizations play in addressing societal challenges. The program encompasses a strategic blend of theoretical foundations and practical applications, with the aim of equipping local nonprofit leaders with the essential skills and knowledge required to excel in the non-profit sector. We aspire that through this program, we will empower individuals to become effective leaders and catalysts for positive change.  Classes begin on Friday, September 12, 2025.  The application is due by June 30, 2025.  

Participants in this certificate program obtain an overview of the unique roles and responsibilities for nonprofit managers, including: 
  • Legal Requirements 
  • Board Development 
  • Financial Responsibilities 
  • Budgeting

Training includes: 
  • Existing Non-Profit Certificate Program (Appendix A) 
  • 150 - hours of instruction, 15 units   
  • Closed Cohorts 
  • All program coordination and administration 
  • Participants who successfully complete coursework (with a C or better) receive an official, printed and digital UCR Extension Certificate issued by Parchment 
  • Participants are responsible for purchasing any required textbooks

Requirements/Eligibility: 
  • Nonprofit leaders and those interested in serving on a nonprofit board
  • Residents residing in the Coachella Valley or Palo Verde Valley
  • The Regional Access Project Foundation will provide a scholarship in the amount of $2,875 to students who are accepted into the program. All students accepted into the program must contribute a $500 training fee.  
  • Priority will be given to NPO Centric members.
  • Applicants should demonstrate:
    • An interest in nonprofit management with a relevant educational background or experience
    • Attend face-to-face sessions (Fridays from 1 PM to 5 PM) at UCR Palm Desert Campus, 75080 Frank Sinatra Dr Palm Desert, 92211, 760-834-0800
    • Must submit a letter of support from your supervisor or Board Chair. 

Completion Requirements 
To earn the certificate, students must successfully complete (grade C or better) five required courses for a total of 15 units. 

Completion Time 
The program can typically be completed in nine months to one year. All coursework must be completed within five years.
